Driver dies in Birdlip head-on collision
A DRIVER was killed when his car collided head on with a BMW convertible on the A417 between Birdlip and Nettleton Bottom last night.
The emergency services were called to the fatal crash just before midnight when the driver of a blue Mazda estate, travelling towards Cirencester, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the black BMW, travelling towards Cheltenham, was taken to Cheltenham General Hospital and his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
Due to the amount of debris left on the road and the difficulty of recovering the vehicle the road has been closed in both directions and is likely to stay closed until midday.
Diversions have been put in place for traffic and drivers can use the A435 to get to Cirencester and the A436 to get to the M5.
