MANUFACTURING firms in the South West are to benefit from a share of £7million of Government funding to improve and develop their supply chains.

The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) has announced that funding will be accessed through the Manufacturing Advisory Service in the South West (MAS-SW), the organisation that offers advice and support to manufacturing firms in the region.

The funding aims to improve supply chain processes through best practice, innovation and technological developments.

Simon Howes, managing director, MAS-SW, said: "A streamlined and efficient supply chain is vital to all manufacturing companies to help ensure that products are reaching target customers as quickly and cost effectively as possible.

"Manufacturers should have robust supply chains in place which can deal with market volatility.

"This additional funding will help us to tackle these issues across all sectors making the South West manufacturing sector stronger.

"We plan to utilise this additional government funding to set up a similar programme across all other sectors."
