TAYLER & Fletcher's monthly collective auction sale of antiques, antique and household furniture, house and estate clearances, held on Saturday April 21, 2018 at The North Cotswold Saleroom, Bourton-on-the-Water.

Rather uncharacteristically, it was jewellery that took the top honours at this particular monthly sale here at the North Cotswold Saleroom in Bourton on the Water.

A fine entry of very high level jewellery ensured that many four figure results were achieved on the day selling predominantly to two particular local clients, looking for gifts.

The first of these was Lot 140, a very fine quality ladies platinum ring set with no less than three large and several small diamonds, the total diamond weight in the region of 2.5ct and this sold on expectation to a client in the room at £1,400.

A little later, a 18k gold bracelet set with a multitude of good sized sapphires and diamonds similarly excited the room selling at a hammer price of £1,600 and Lot 163 yielded not much less attention when a similar heavy 18k gold bangle also set with pear shaped sapphires and a multitude of diamonds enthused bidders at £1,100.

Other jewellery also did very well within this high-value section, perhaps reflecting a change of weather with the sun shining mostly gloriously during the Saturday Sale hours.

Other sections within the sale also sold steadily and although there were no record prices offered for the opening pottery/porcelain section, several three figure Lots were also noted here including a good 19th century part dessert service comprising four side plates and two comports with pierced borders, each of the pieces distinguishing themselves with individually hand gilded and decorated topographical Scottish scenes in enamels.

Further enhancing this beautiful Lot were the names of the particular places depicted painted to the underside of each piece.

The £220 given over eventually seemed like a very good deal for the buyer given the amount and quality.

It can be reported that most of the glassware sold as did the metalware section following and a rather large and imposing pair of Gothic style wrought iron six light candelabra, each suspended from chains raised a few eyebrows when they sold for £300 hammer.

One of the more unusual Lots (this time in the silver section) was an early 20th century hallmarked silver table cigar lighter in the form of an aeroplane with a presentation plaque to one side.

Although there was a minor dent to the fuselage and the lighter had long since parted company with the interior workings, nevertheless enough interest was stirred up and the plane flew away to the tune of £230 after stiff competition in the room.

Once again, furniture remained fairly selective with buyers seemingly picking up a good selection of bargains and this is seemingly true for every saleroom in the land as the demand for furniture in general (especially older furniture) is sadly not once as it was although a rather nice mid to late 19th century French mahogany centre table delighted the local purchaser when the hammer came down at a final £300 having sold to a commission bid battling against other bids in the room.

The few electricals in the sale also did well, mostly in the form of lamps, with top Lot here being a fabulously stylish 1960s/70s floor standing sectional lamp with an extremely tall circular orange shade that lit up bidders fancies at £100.

From the outside section, the usual assortment of garden tools, metalware and outside miscellaneous lots sold well enough with all of the garden stoneware finding new homes.

The next auction sale to be held at this venue will be on the May 19, 2018, with a specialist antique and modern silver section.

We can already report excellent entries for this forthcoming auction sale, with very fine reproduction oak furniture, high quality expensive sofas and soft furnishings and good entries of antique and modern pine furniture together with a large

Mac Allister Lawn Tractor (as new) via a local estate clearance and a large selection of Cotswold stone staddlestones and troughs etc, consigned from a single private country property in Moreton.
