Fashionista’s wardrobe makes £36,000 at Cotswold auction

Clothes and shoes by top fashion designers made £36,000 when they went under the hammer at a Cotswolds auction house earlier this month.

Fashion lovers crammed into the salerooms of Moore Allen & Innocent in Cirencester to snap up a bargain. Many more took advantage of the firm’s live bidding system to compete online.

The garments were being sold on behalf of a storage company: the original owners failed to pay a substantial bill for storage of some of the contents of their home.

Clothes, shoes and bags, many of which retailed at thousands of pounds, were offered for a fraction of their original price.

Among the top prices were the £1,000 paid for a Louis Vuitton jewellery box in the form of a chest, together with a Louis Vuitton suitcase. A Louis Vuitton holdall sold for £580, and a Louis Vuitton satchel made £440, while a Louis Vuitton handbag was snapped up for £280.

A set of men’s Alfred Dunhill luggage comprising holdall, overnight bag and square bag, together with various protective cloth bags achieved £480.

In clothing, a collection of seven gentleman's coats by designers including Loro Piana, Canali, and Polo by Ralph Lauren made £620, while a boxed ladies Loro Piana baby cashmere cream hooded cardigan with blue frost fox fur trim made £600.

A Christian Dior red evening gown, together with a Valentino red evening gown, and an After Six red evening gown sold for £220, and two Valentino red evening gowns made £200, as did a Christian Dior evening dress with beaded decoration, together with a Valentino black evening dress.

Three Burberry women’s trench coats, one with fur trim, sold for £480, while an Emporio Armani yellow and white trimmed leather biker style jacket, a Just Cavali leather jacket, and a Dolce & Gabbana brown leather bomber jacket together with a Laurèll white leather retro style jacket and a Laurèll cream leather jacket achieved £460, as did a collection of padded coats with fur collars by various makers including Millen, de Nicola, and Loro Piana.

In shoes, a pair of Christian Louboutin suede boots, which retail for £1,000, sold for £440, a pair of Fendi suede and patent knee high boots achieved £240, a pair of Jimmy Choo black leather over the knee boots sold for £220, a pair of Fendi black suede and leather knee high boots were bought for £200, and pair of Jimmy Choo Joy patent leather boots made £160.

Elsewhere in Moore Allen & Innocent’s first two-day antiques auction, a suite of Edinburgh Crystal cut glassware of thistle form with etched thistle decoration comprising twelve red wines, twelve white wines, twelve waters and twelve high balls, two jugs and stoppers, one decanter, one claret jug and one water jug made £1,900 against an estimate of £500 to £800.

A pair of circa 1900 white painted wrought iron and wire work scroll arm benches sold for £1,500 against a £600 to £900 estimate, two gold Kruggerand coins sold for £820 each – literally their weight in gold – and a pair of 19th Century Chinese blue and white baluster shaped vases and covers – found in the cellar of a care home in Cirencester – made £650.

In all, £100,000 worth of antiques was bought and sold over the two days. For more information about buying and selling antiques at auction, log on to mooreallen.co.uk
