FROM bow and poison-tipped arrows from the South Seas to pictures of Hitler ‘chillaxing’ in pieces of Nazi propaganda, experts from Moore Allen & Innocent saw a wide range of antiques when they held their last charity valuation day at garden centre Dobbies last year.

And the team will be returning on Saturday, September 10, to see what other gems they can uncover – as well as raising much-needed funds for the charity Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Valuers Piers Critchlow and Philip Allwood – well-known from appearances on TV shows including Bargain Hunt, Flog It and Antiques Road Trip – will be at the Siddington Road, Cirencester garden centre from 10am to 2pm.

For a suggested donation of £3 per item, the valuers will tell owners more about their possessions, and how much they might be worth if sold at auction.

And for some antiques owners, that could be a small fortune.

A pair of circa 1920 Wedgwood Fairyland Lustre trumpet vases, designed by Daisy Makeig-Jones, were brought to last September’s valuation day for inspection.

They sold for £2,000 when they went under the hammer at Moore Allen & Innocent’s auction of selected antiques in November.

Philip said: “If anyone’s got a family heirloom, and they’d like to know how much it’s worth, either for insurance purposes or because they’re thinking of selling it, our valuation days are a great way of getting informed and impartial advice – while raising money for good causes at the same time.

“You never know… that old watch or plate your Granny left you could be worth thousands of pounds!”

Moore Allen & Innocent conducts regular charity valuation days throughout the Cotswolds, and offers valuation advice on weekdays from its saleroom at Norcote, on the outskirts of Cirencester. For more information about buying and selling at auction, log on to mooreallen.co.uk
