POLICE arrested a driver for allegedly driving the wrong way down the A419 while three times over the drink-drive limit.

Cotswolds Police said the driver had been detained in Swindon at around 12.15am this morning after coming to a stop at Blunsdon, near Swindon.

It is alleged he drove his Ford Focus almost the entire way down the dual carriageway from Cirencester while triple the legal limit.

As Cotswolds Police gave chase in the correct carriageway, Wiltshire Police stopped traffic and arrested the driver, who was apparently going around 40mph.

A police spokesman said: "The incident began at 11.55pm yesterday (May 9) when a vehicle was witnessed driving on the wrong side of the A419 heading towards Cirencester.

"The male driver was detained by Wiltshire Police in Blunsdon at around 12.15am after the vehicle came to a stop.

"He was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and dangerous driving. Nobody was injured during the incident."
