FORGET the Christmas turkey, it was all about the cockerel at Moore Allen & Innocent’s final auction of 2015.

Standing proud at 28cm tall, the circa 1900 Austrian cockerel by the renowned sculptor Franz Bergman was accompanied by his hen, a little shorter at 23cm.

Despite wear and scuffs, the pair – which graced the front cover of the auction catalogue - made the top price of the day, achieving a winning bid of £2,500 in Cirencester on Friday, December 18.

There were more animals in the picture section, with a 124cm-wide oil on canvas portrait of Miss Catchpole Upon a Zebra in the Savannah exceeding its £100 to £150 estimate to settle at £500.

Further paintings by Michael J Allard, the English-born, African-based contemporary artist, sold for between £200 and £400 apiece.

In the jewellery section, an 18 carat gold mounted five stone diamond ring, of approximately 0.75 carats total achieved £700, against a £300 to £500 estimate, while in the furniture section a modern Coach House Antiques brown leather Chesterfield sofa made £500 against a £200 to £300 estimate.

Elsewhere, a collection of four early 20th century Chinese dolls with painted and carved wooden heads and cloth bodies made £400, while a pair of Bose CD clock radios, together with a Pure Evoke Flow radio, which appeared not be have been used and was still in its original packaging, made £300 against an estimate of £50 to £80.

And someone’s New Year’s Eve party will go with a swing, as a collection of vinyl LPs, including The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s Axis Bold as Love, David Bowie’s The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars, and Aladdin Sane, Donovan’s Fairytale, Roxy Music’s The Second Roxy Music Album, and The Doors’ Weird Scenes Inside the Goldmine achieved £130 against an estimate of £50 to £80.

The next auction at Moore Allen & Innocent will be the Antique and General Sale on Friday, January 15.
