A CIRENCESTER tailor has joined forces with a pair of intrepid  twins for the adventure of a lifetime.

The Turner twins, Hugo and Ross, from Dartmoor, are going to follow in the footsteps of famous explorer – George Mallory, and will look to climb the Mount Elbus, which stands at an astonishing 5,642m (18,510ft) above sea level.

Mr Mallory vanished and was never seen again when climbing Mount Everest in 1924 and Barrington Ayre Shirtmaker and Tailor has made a Gabardine jacket to the exact standards of the one he wore on that mission.

One of the twins will wear the traditional clothing and use equipment made to the standards of those used 100 years ago, while the other will don modern climbing attire and use the latest tools.

“As soon as I was asked to be involved I knew I could not turn this opportunity down,” said Barrington Ayre’s Tom Wharton.

“The Turner’s have taken on some giant challenges in the past including rowing the Atlantic and crossing Greenland, I think this is their toughest yet.

“The jacket is made from a type of tweed and it will be interesting to see how it holds up out there.”

The twins, Hugo and Ross, from Dartmoor, are taking on the challenge in partnership with King’s College in London who will be analysing how the twins react when faced with hostile and extreme conditions.
