FIVE of the 12 writers reading their work at the Gloucestershire Writers’ Network event at the Cheltenham Literature Festival in October this year studied Creative Writing at New Brewery Arts with Dr Rona Laycock.

Gill Garrett won the poetry section with her poem, Retrospect ‘Anne Dakins, her work, in the 13th year of her age, 1861’.

Derek Healy was runner up with his poem, Walking Leckhampton.

In the short story category, John Holland, Marilyn Timms and Wendy Campbell were runners up.

Brewery Arts is very proud of their achievements and wish them every success at the Literature Festival.

The judges this year were the novelist, Jennifer Cryer and the Cheltenham poet, Jennie Farley.

The Gloucestershire Writers’ Network is an umbrella organisation that works to provide writers in the county with information on events, classes and writing groups. It also organises the literature festival writing competition and the event, which takes place this year in The Studio, Imperial Gardens, Cheltenham on the evening of Monday, October 7.
