Cotswolds women running for local surgery

A 58-YEAR-OLD women is running the London marathon next week to raise money to buy equipment for a Cirencester surgery.

Yvonne Binks, of Kemble Road, Ewen is hoping to earn enough for a syringe driver for Park Surgery on Old Tetbury Road.

The device is designed to ease the suffering of terminally ill patients.

It is fixed to the arm and releases a constant, steady flow of anasthetics into the system to bring pain relief.

Yvonne's husband used the surgery's only syringe driver before he died of cancer last August.

She is now determined to make sure the surgery has more than one available for use. A spare could also be loaned out to other surgeries if required.

Dr Adrian Hunnisett of Park Surgery said: "We are very grateful to Yvonne for all her efforts. We are honoured that she is going to run for us.

"It is very generous of her and it will benefit a lot of patients."

Yvonne has run marathons before but not for a few years now and she says this will be her last one.

She said: "I feel I need to give something back."

So far Yvonne has raised £750, however her local branch of Barclays has promised to match her pound for pound meaning the total is at £1,500.

With the cost of the syringe driver at £1,200 she has vowed to donate all of the excess money to Sobell House hospice in Oxford.
