Drastic hairtcut for charity

STAFF at Cirencester's Kingsmeadow Tesco are going under the clippers next month to help raise money to buy wheelchairs for disabled children.

Checkout manager Sam Tracy and Debbie Twine, general assistant on the electrical desk, are both losing their locks for Whizz-Kidz.

But this is not the first time Sam, 33, has shaved her head - five years ago she did the same after a colleague was diagnosed with cancer.

D-Day is Saturday, May 27 around lunchtime, when the two women hope to attract a crowd in the superstore before the buzzing begins. Sam said: "I am not nervous - I like having my head shaved, but I don't think my hairdresser will be very happy because she has only just dyed it red."

Whizz-Kidz is Tesco's charity of the year for 2006 and nationally the superstore hopes to raise £1.5 million.

In Cirencester the target is £48,000 - enough to buy eight specialist wheelchairs for six disabled children across the county.

From this weekend there will be a charity table at the front of the store to let people know more about the charity and hopefully donate some money to the cause.
