Thames couple reach golden landmark

A COUPLE who met while boating on the River Thames will be celebrating their golden wedding anniversary tommorrow.

Michael and Margaret Tinson, of Queen Elizabeth Street, Cirencester have lived happily in the town ever since their marriage at Fairford Church on March 31, 1956.

The couple first met in 1954 in Lechlade by the River Thames. Michael was boating up the river with some pals when he stopped and offered a lift to Margaret and a friend.

Two weeks later he again spotted her while sailing up the river and once more offered her a ride.

They have two sons, Nigel, 46 and Mark, 43 as well as two grandchildren Sophie, Nigel's daughter, who is 17 and studying accountancy at Cirencester College and Steven, 23, who works with dad Mark at their carpentry and joinery shop.

And what's the secret to a long and happy marriage?

Well, according to Michael, it's a bit of give and take.
