EARLIER in the season, Purton lost 3-2 at Harrow Hill in a GLS Hellenic League Division One West-team game they should have won, writes Alan Eastwood.
On Saturday, at the Red House, they gave an excellent all-round team performance to defeat their third-placed opponents 3-0 and extend their run of unbeaten league matches to seven.
In the first half, except for one effort by the visitors, Purton looked the most likely team to score and efforts by McMackin, Hall and Hibberd just failed to find the Harrow Hill net.
In the second half, Purton took control and might well have netted more than the three goals taken.
Early on, Mathew Hibberd shot over the bar and a Joshua Digby effort was blocked on the goal-line.
Another Digby shot was then blocked and fell to Vince McMackin but his drive was headed off the goal-line.
On 68 minutes, a Purton effort was only half cleared and Tom Goodey was on hand to stab the ball in to give Purton the lead.
Goodey and then Marcus Hall both went close and two good efforts by Hibberd and another from McMackin went close to extending their lead.
Purton went 2-0 up after 83 minutes when McMackin and Paul Blagden exchanged passes and Blagden stroked the ball home from 12 yards.
Five minutes later, Purton went 3-0 up when, following a Purton corner kick, Mathew Hibberd drove in his first goal for the club to give Purton their well-deserved victory.
Purton are without a fixture this coming Saturday but play host to Pewsey Vale, at the Red House, on Saturday, April 1: kick off 3pm.
Purton Reserves' and Purton A team's fixtures were cancelled.
