Chopping start to new school hall

YOUNGSTERS at Down Ampney Primary School will soon be treading the boards in end of term productions after the completion of their new assembly hall.

Well over 100 villagers attended the official opening of the brand new building on Friday, marking the end of many years' hard work.

Pupils and teachers now have a space where they can hold whole school assemblies and PE classes, as well as plays and shows.

Headteacher Corinne Martin said: "It's something that the school has been trying to pursue for a number of years, and the building work started in July.

"It moved on quite quickly and everyone is really impressed so far - it is great to have something the pupils use regularly. It's a good size for them to use."

The school council was in charge of invitations for the event and refreshments were provided by the parent-teacher association.

Olympic silver medallist Kate Howey also came along to celebrate the opening of the hall and gave a judo display in a bid to promote exercise among the pupils.
