Danks changes mind over Centurions

MARK Danks has left Cirencester Town after a last-minute change of mind saw him decide against joining the club until the end of the season.

Danks, 21, has moved to Worcester City, having scored five goals in seven games after joining Cirencester on a month's loan, from Forest Green Rovers, in December.

A fortnight ago, Town announced Danks had agreed to join them until the end of the season because he had no future at Rovers of the Nationwide Conference, where he was a professional.

Cirencester manager, Brian Hughes, said Danks left Town because City play in the higher Nationwide North league, he will get a better salary there and Worcester is nearer his Wolverhampton home.

Hughes said Danks signed a contract with Cirencester earlier this month but Worcester had bid for him on the day Town's loan agreement with Rovers was to expire.

Saying Danks' departure was amicable, Hughes added: "I would've liked to keep him and we could've been obstructive but, at the end of the day, I don't want to keep someone who doesn't want to play for us.

"Worcester offered a higher standard of football and I never want to stand in the way of players who want to move up.

"We're used to players doing a good job for us and moving on. We're a development club in that respect."

Danks has played for Wolverhampton Wanderers, Bradford City and non-league clubs Halesowen Town and Hednesford Town.

He scored 24 goals in 42 matches for Hednesford in 2003-2004.
