Textile exhibition at Brewery Arts

FOOTSTEPS is a contemporary textile exhibition of mixed media and textiles that demonstrates the connections between commissioned contemporary fine art/craft works and source material from museum collections.

Nine artists from the South West each partnered with a local or national museum, found inspiration and intrigue from specialist collections.

All artists have established reputations working in textiles but have subsequently developed their work in different mediums.

The work range includes shoes made from human hair, an unsettling response to Chinese bound shoes from Somerset County Museum (Jenni Dutton) to a series of small 'land/flight scrapes' from hand made paper, mixed media and found text recording the explorations of John Stringfellow on sustained powered flight (Alice Crane).

Anyone interested in stitching, needlework and textiles of all kinds will find this exhibition impressive, as will those who are interested in the inspirational effect of historical research.

Students of textiles are particularly welcome and gallery tours and talks can be arranged by ringing in advance Emma Roffe Education Officer at Brewery Arts. Works are for sale. Brewery Arts Main Gallery until February 11, open Monday - Saturday 10am - 5pm. Admission free.
