Doom and gloom for Ciren Town

Cirencester Town 1 (Halliday 32), Yate Town 3 (Pritchard 18, Sims 19, Sylvester 90)

YATE dominated in the first 20 minutes, battering their way through.

They should have been ahead, with Paul Thompson saving well from Darren Edwards' and Justin Pritchard's headers.

Pritchard finally made the pressure count, glancing in a Steve Campbell free kick on 18 minutes.

On 19 minutes, Gary Horgan miscued, putting pressure on Cirencester's defence.

The ball squirted free for unmarked Adam Sims to score.

Yate defended their lead robustly, with Paul Chernoweth dishing out the tackles.

Chernoweth was finally booked for his fourth serious offence that saw him clatter Mark Danks 20 yards out.

Kevin Halliday punished him with a superb far-post free kick that forced a miscue from Tony Court to make it 2-1 on 32 minutes.

The Centurions pressed in the second half but were too frantic, eschewing their usual accurate passing to force the game.

Nevertheless, they made chances and should have equalised.

Lee Smith put Mark Danks in on 64 minutes, only for Court to block the shot.

Scott Griffin, put in by Gareth Hopkins on 75 minutes, screwed wide from 15 yards.

Halliday, booked earlier for backchat, was dismissed on 69 minutes after receiving a second yellow for diving in to try and retrieve a lost ball.

Chernoweth continued his charmed life, fouling with impunity but disrupting Cirencester's midfield.

He was left for dead on 80 minutes when he dived in and missed Lee Smith but Court pulled off a game-saving stop.

Cirencester's incessant attacking left them exposed.

Thompson did well to stop efforts from Darren Edwards and Jason Wood. Yate substitute, Jimmy Cox, handled when breaking away but was allowed to pass up field to Edwards.

Thompson dumped him for a straight red.

On 89 minutes, Lee Jefferies committed exactly the same foul on Scott Griffin in the box but the ball was instead sent up field for Christian Sylvester to notch an easy clincher on 90 minutes.

Man of the match went to Lee Smith (Cirencester).
