Children zip along in Fairford

YOUNGSTERS in Fairford have been whizzing through the airwaves on a new zip-wire thanks to the town council.

The timber contraption was installed in the Walnut Tree Field last week and is already proving to be very popular.

And at a cost of £10,500 a great deal of appreciation has been directed at the town council for paying for the facility.

Alison Dugdale, who is chairman of the playground committee, said: "It has cost a lot of money and the council has been very generous.

"It has been brilliant because I think the park was getting a bit jaded, but since the zip-wire has gone in it has been so busy.

"We are really pleased with the effect it has had - if the park is being used for the correct purpose there is less opportunity for vandalism."

But the playground committee isn't stopping at a zip-wire - it has plans for new facilities for older children, as well as a big toddler section.
