United show both sides of their Jekyll and Hide character

CIRENCESTER United have only themselves to blame for Saturday's lack-lustre Hellenic Division One 2-0thome loss against Letcombe.

Although they created several very good opportunities in the first half, they failed to really test the visiting keeper and lacked a clinical edge.

Letcombe began to grow in confidence and forced a succession of corners.

As the half drew to a close, the opposing winger made a strong run inside the home defence and drew the keeper before rolling the ball into the far corner.

The hosts' plans to rescue the game were dealt a major blow just three minutes into the second half.

Hesitancy to deal with a long ball resulted in the Letcombe forward cutting in from the right and curling a fine shot into the top corner.

Changes were made shortly after with all three subs thrown on in an attempt to get back into the game.

Appeals for a penalty were waved away after Phil Hall appeared to be brought down inside the box.

With ten minutes to go, McSherry sent a delicate chip just wide. But, in truth, the visitors played out the remainder of the game without any real scares.

This was a real Jekyll and Hyde display after the Bank Holiday Monday's win against Purton.

The manager, who is looking for a positive response for this weekend's tough fixture away to high-flying Headington, is likely to include one or two new faces for the outing.
