ON a wonderful warm and sunny day on Sunday, Bibury CC claimed the Graeme Robertson Bowl at Barnsley Park, beating Barnsley Beeches by 49 runs in the final.
Earlier, in first game of the day, Bibury had beaten South Cerney by six wickets, restricting them to 89-7 (Paul Loxton 35, John Tenty 2-13) and then making the runs required with just three balls to spare.
In the second semi-final, hosts Barnsley Beeches came out on top against last year's winners, Williamstrip.
Put into bat, Williamstrip made 91-7 off their 16 overs, thanks largely to Mike Godwin's contribution of 42, while Darryl Warner had the best bowling figures (2-13).
In reply, Paul Dodson (33no) led the way as Barnsley got safely home by seven wickets,
The third place play-off produced the highest scoring of the day. South Cerney posted the daunting total of 143-4, thanks to a quick-fire 72 from Paul Godding, half of which came in sixes.
Williamstrip made a valiant effort with Mike Godwin (52) leading the way, only to fall just four runs short at 141-6 (G Chivers 2-18).
In the final, Shaun Wilson made a fine, unbeaten 72 as Bibury ran up 118-2 (A Johnson 1-13).
Against excellent bowling (J Tenty 2-16, R Hopkins 2-18, K Lane 10-3), Barnsley Beeches struggled for runs with only Paul Dodson (27) making double figures as they ended on 69 all out.
Pam Ayers, whose sons play for Barnsley Beeches, presented the Graeme Robertson Bowl to David Williams, the Bibury CC captain.
She thanked everyone whose hard work had made for such a successful day.
The support of Jesse Smith (Butchers) and the Wild Duck at Ewen was particularly appreciated. John Tenty (Bibury) was awarded Player of the Tournament.
Over the past 14 years, this annual event has raised more than £10,000 for the Bristol Cancer Centre in memory of a much-loved Barnsley player.
