Youngsters descend on Bourton school

BOURTON-on-the-Water's high school was visited by 134 primary-age children for its Year Five Science, Industry and Technology Day.

The youngsters, aged eight and nine, flocked to the Cotswold School from Bourton, Temple Guiting, Bledington, Swell, Withington, Sherborne, Northleach, Stow-on-the-Wold, Andoversford and Chedworth St Andrew's primary schools.

The annual event, held for at least the last three years, saw them divided into groups of 11-12 for workshops in the school's science and design technology departments.

While some undertook scientific projects that involved making slime, parachutes for eggs, rainbow fizz, virtual robots, kites, spinners and pop-ups, others attended a talk by Royal Mail representatives who described the technology used to sort the post.

Cotswold School head of physics, Tim Kemp, said many of the children would soon be considering which high school to attend.

He said: "The main thing was really to give the children a taste of the sort of activities that can be offered in our school."
