ABBEY Lake Angling Club's Barbecue Cup, the first match of the season, was won by Matt Greaves with a good catch in excess of 6lb, consisting mainly of good-sized roach caught on the waggler.
The winner of the Junior Cup was Martin Bartlett with a good 3lb catch of mainly perch caught on the pole.
The club's next match is a new competition added to this year's list, known as the Rod Only Cup.
There will be a cup for both junior and adult winners. As the name states, the competition is involves using rods only as poles will not be allowed.
This will provide an even chance for all, especially any younger members who have not got a pole.
The match takes place at the Abbey Lake on Sunday, July 24. The draw for pegs is at 8am with the match running from 9am until 2pm.
Junior Teaching sessions at Abbey Lake are to run on Wednesday evenings throughout the summer from 6.30pm until approximately 8.45pm.
Coaching is provided whilst juniors can have a go. The sessions are open to any member or non- member.
Please remember that you must have your Environment Agency Rod Licence.
Should anyone need one (12 years or older), please go to www.environment-agency.gov.uk
