FAIRFORD Town FC kicked off their pre-season campaign with a professional approach against Swindon Town's Youth Team at the Wanborough training ground last Tuesday night when a Chris Allen penalty was enough to decide the outcome in favour of the County Ground side.
It was the first pre-season game for both sides on what was a sweltering evening in Wiltshire, with both teams making several changes throughout this absorbing encounter.
Swindon coaches Ian Woan and Iffy Onuora used the game to give a number of players a run-out with Andy Caton, Ashan Holgate and Ben Wells amongst those with first-team experience on show.
Whilst it was a chance for the Swindon youngsters to impress watching first team manager Andy King, it was also the first game for the Cinder Lane side under their new manager Kevin Maloney, who took over the helm from former Fairford boss Mark Webb during the summer.
Having acquitted themselves well, Fairford unluckily lost out to this late penalty.
In the end, Allen's spot-kick was enough to decide matters after Lucas Jutkiewicz had been brought down in the box.
Please note that Fairford Town FC are urgently looking for a first team physio.
All interested parties should contact club president Mike Tanner on 01285 713030 as soon as possible.
In the FA Vase first qualifying round, Fairford Town have been drawn at home to Portland United with a home tie against Radstock Town or Barnstaple Town should they win this first FA Vase encounter.
FA Cup preliminary round (Saturday, August 27): Fairford Town v Devizes Town.
FA Cup first qualifying round (Saturday, September 10): Fairford Town or Devizes Town v Bishops Cleeve or Corsham or Bideford.
