Golfers Sheila and David lift the Corinium Goblets

UNDER a fierce sun and with temperatures approaching 30 degrees Centrigrade, a total of 176 golfers from as far afield as Dorset and Birmingham contested Cirencester Golf Club's open mixed foursomes tournament last Sunday for the honour of winning the prestigious Corinium Goblets.

On a course in magnificent condition, competition was intense with the eventual victors being the home pairing of Sheila Telling and David Banford with 39 Stableford points.

Other prizewinners are as follows: first place mixed team with 35 points are Eileen Wilson (Frilford Heath) and Tony Gatrell; first place members team with 38 points are Sue Bremner and Stuart Michaelis.

First place guests' team, with 37 points, are Barbara Entwistle and Roger Entwistle (Ogbourne Downs).

The second place guests' team on countback, with 33 points, are Anne Scratchley, lady captain of Ogbourne Downs, and Roger Scratchley.

Nearest the pin on the 13th was won by L Ward, of Tewkesbury Park, and on the 18th by Gerald Park, of Cirencester.

A mixed pairs putting competition, which raised £52 towards the Captain's Charity (Cirencester Citizens' Advice Bureau), was won by Sheila Marsh and Gordon Robbins, of Cirencester.
