Jazz Jamaica perform for World Music series

THE summer series of World Music at the Bowl concerts continues on Saturday, July 2 with Jazz Jamaica, one of the UK's premier ska bands.

Led by bassist and ex jazz warrior, Gary Crosby, the band has given the traditional Jazz Jamaica treatment (a fusion of Jamaican ska with jazz) to some of our favourite Motown tunes including Dancing in the Street, My Girl and Tears of a Clown.

With an all star line-up which includes saxophonists Soweto Kinch and Denys Baptiste as well as vocal diva Juliet Roberts, their new album Motown Reloaded runs the gamut of Jamaican music, from reggae to rockers and ska to calypso, all underpinned by some great jazz.

Jazz Jamaica will appeal to young and older audiences alike, to serious listeners and those who simply want to party.

With their big, bold, brassy horns and skanking rhythm section, the Motown Reloaded carries the usual Jazz Jamaica health warning: Jazz Jamaica can seriously wear out your shoes!

Situated within the Town Gardens, off Bath Road, The Bowl is family friendly and secure and safe for children.

There's a bar and hot, themed food but visitors are welcome to bring their own food, drink and seating. Doors open at 6pm and the band goes on at 8pm.
