Charity golf day raises over £5400 for a good cause

A CHARITY Golf Day, held at Cirencester Golf Club last week, has raised in excess of £5400 for Macmillan Cancer Relief.

In perfect conditions, 40 teams of four battled against each other and the long rough throughout the day.

The event culminated in a victory for the Spaniards - Tony Francis, Neil Herbert, Robin Herbert and Colin Harrison - who finished a point clear of the local Thursday Club.

With prizes for the longest drive on the seventh hole, nearest-the-pin on all par threes, a putting competition, raffle and auction, all tastes were catered for.

But, more importantly, a significant sum was raised for Macmillan Cancer Relief to support people in Gloucestershire.

And to round off an excellent day, the oldest swinger in town, Fred Wedlock, provided his own particular brand of humour.

The Cirencester committee for Macmillan Cancer Relief expresses thanks to Cirencester Golf Club and to the many sponsors who made the day such a success.
