War evacuees reunited in Cotswold village

VILLAGERS from Ampney Crucis took a trip down memory lane when they held a special reunion this month.

More than 70 people crowded into the village hall to welcome back former evacuees who stayed in the village during World War II.

The day was organised by June Trotman who grew up in Ampney Crucis.

She got the idea for the reunion after she and a friend decided to get in touch with a friend they remembered from their childhood.

One thing led to another and soon Mrs Trotman managed to contact old villagers and evacuees for a giant tea party.

Mrs Trotman, ably assisted by friends and family, not only organised the whole thing but also did the catering as well as decking out the hall in red, white and blue.

Speaking after the event she said: "It was fabulous, there was men in tears and people seeing other people in photographs. It went really well so I'm more then pleased."
