BUSTERY winds were again the order of the day for 28 competitors setting off in the latest of the Corinium Cycling Club and Swindon RC organised ten-mile time trial series.
But with Jason Costello still away in Thailand, Allan Norwood was quickest Corinium rider in winning last Thursday evening's event in 24min 41sec.
Second place was taken by a fast-improving Andy Wilcox in 25.07 whilst third went to Corinium's rising junior star rider, Callum Lister, in 25.52.
Other Corinium riders timed as follows: Derek Mitchell 26.31, Andrew Kirk 26.43, Stephen Chapman 26.55, a great first ride of the season by Steve Yates at 27.02, Gerald Peppin 27.42, Gareth Vernon-Roberts 27.43, Jack Mitchell 27.59, Pete Stevens 29.10, 13 year old Joe Stranks 29.18, David Moore 29.20. Sadly, Fred Gardener did not finish.
Swindon RC fielded 13 riders with Trevor Sherwood being the fastest of them with 23.20.
The season-long Corinium handicap event is currently led by a steadily improving Pete Stevens with 117 points. Young Callum Lister is second on 106 while lying third with 104 is Gareth Vernon-Roberts.
It's been a gallant effort by Vernon-Roberts who had severe back trouble all last year which prevented him from cycling.
Life member and popular competitor Mike Appleby has been in the wars after falling off his bike recently. He is now having to rest after sustaining a broken pelvis.
Tonight's (Thursday) ten-mile TT starts at 7pm, and any new riders are welcome to join Corinium at the Bradstone Pavilion either before or after the event.
The weekly club runs are still going strong with this Sunday's club run heading to Crickley Hill.
It will depart from Cirencester Parish Church at 9am with the faster ride setting off for the same location 30 minutes later.
Any non-members wishing to join in should come along and make yourself known to the other riders.
