Pupils get their teeth into healthy tuck shop

PUPIL power has prevailed at a Cirencester school after teachers agreed to children's demands for a tuck shop.

But staff will have the last laugh and will not be stocking sweets and crisps but healthy alternatives such as dried fruits.

Cirencester Junior School will now have a special healthy tuck shop on a trial basis after kids asked for it to return.

Headteacher Pam Keevil explained: "It was brought up by the school council that we should have a tuck shop again. Previous tuck shops had been very much sweets but in line with the new interest to promote healthy eating we are promoting a healthy tuck shop."

The new improved tuck shop will stock a range of products supplied by

The Healthy Snack Company including lots of different types of dried fruits all bagged up in nice bright colours.

Pupils will now be able to buy all the healthy treats they want on Friday afternoons and if the trial is successful it could come back as a permanent fixture.

Mrs Keevil explained how the tuck shop trial would run for now.

"We've bought about £100 worth of snacks," she said. "And we are going to see how quickly that goes and the school council are going to get the opinion of their class mates."
