Film man captures wartime memories

LECHLADE filmmaker Chris Barrett is making a film of people's memories of VE and VJ Days.

It will be shown during a packed weekend of commemoration events on the weekend of July 9 & 10 - organised by the Lechlade VE/VJ Day commemoration committee.

Chairman Robert Long said: "Younger people in Lechlade have no knowledge of that time and rarely ask older people about their experiences.

"It is hoped this film will bring alive a unique period in recent history and put a human face on those world changing events."

But Chris Barrett, who has previously produced films about the A417/A419 and RAF Fairford, needs people who can remember the Second World War to contact him.

He said: "We are looking for people who have memories to share of that time in Lechlade and realise that some may have moved into the surrounding counties.

"Please don't be put off, the process is pretty painless and could be a very good opportunity to share something which otherwise may be lost forever."

The finished film will also find a place in the archives of the Lechlade History Society. If you feel able to help call Chris on 01367 253023.
