SCHOOLBOY starlet Sam Jenner pulled off the biggest win of his career last Saturday when Malmesbury ABC staged their final show of the season.
The Olympiad in Chippenham has witnessed some classic battles over the years, and Jenner's clash with Welsh champion Leon Goodman (St Joseph's) had all the ingredients to thrill the fans in a highly-charged atmosphere.
Four Nations champion Goodman went straight on attack from the first bell, but found Jenner an elusive target as he sped around the ring, counter-punching on the retreat.
By the second round, the cool Jenner had the Welsh international's style sorted out and the more Goodman came forward, the more it suited Jenner's well-rehearsed tactics of keeping on the move and using plenty of lateral movement.
Each time Goodman tried to pin the Malmesbury boy on to the ropes, Jenner would glide effortlessly away and rake in counters with both hands.
The difference in styles made for an intriguing encounter right up to the final bell, and there was a roar from the crowd when Jenner had his hand raised at the end of this pulsating contest.
Popular clubmate Andy Ware delighted all involved in the Malmesbury outfit when he produced a great boxing performance to record his first win for the club at the expense of Cleeve's Alex Holland.
Showing great determination and confident, Ware began briskly and immediately found the target with his jab and right crosses and employed neat footwork whenever danger threatened.
Growing in confidence in the second, Ware brought his vast repertoire of bunches into play, impressing with some eye-catching uppercuts and hooks to open up a wide points gap.
Brave Holland tried to get on terms in the last, but by then Ware was beginning to enjoy himself and some solid right crosses had the Cleeve corner almost throwing in the towel.
At the bell, there could be only one winner. Trophies were handed out by schoolboy champion Joe Hughes, who competes in the Cadets Four Nations Tournament in Wales this weekend.
