AFTER winning the toss and inviting Kidlington to bat, Bourton Vale Cricket Club were soon rewarded when the first three wickets fell for 59, two for Ryan Newhook and one to Nick Anderson, who also took the fourth wicket with the score on 88.
And in Saturday's Cherwell League Divison One game, there then followed a stand of 103 between Rick Lupton 81 and John Kitson who finished on 66 not out.
The next four batsmen fell quickly to Anderson and James Winstanley and, with their allotted 50 overs completed, the score was 257-9. Bourton captain Anderson finished with 5-93.
In reply, Vale got off to a good start with Brendan Rabbet and James Winstanley putting on 91 for the first wicket.
Rabbet was joined by Henry Van de Walt, who has played one provincial game for Griqualand in South Africa.
The Kimberley player soon showed why as, in a stand of 86 with Rabbet, he played powerful shots on either side of the wicket. Rabbet stayed firm as wickets began to fall in the run chase.
After completing his century, Rabbet was caught on the boundary at the start of the last over with 11 runs required.
Another wicket fell and, with three balls left, out marched Anderson with still ten needed.
But he proceeded to dispatch all three balls for four to take the Vale to an exciting victory.
Bourton Vale 2nds were also in good form on their visit to Witney Mills last weekend.
Tony Alderton took four wickets and Mathew Kyte five as the hosts were restricted to 146.
In reply, Martin Hayward and Mat Kyte lead the way as the Vale 2nds races to a seven-wicket win in 27 overs.
