Sky's the limit at Cotswold Show

A DAREDEVIL display featuring the pride of Britain's wartime airforce will mark the 60th anniversary celebrations of VE day at this year's Suzuki Cotswold Show and Country Fair.

The show takes place at Cirencester Park on July 9-10 and will feature a fly-past and aerial display by a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Spitfire on the Sunday.

During the later years of World War Two the showground was the site for two American military hospitals and show chairman Lord Apsley said it was a fitting tribute for this year's event to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the end of the war in Europe.

He explained: "At this year's Cotswold Show and Country Fair, we want to make a particular point of commemorating those servicemen who gave their lives during World War Two.

"We have chosen to celebrate VE and VJ day with a fly pass by a Spitfire fighter, the plane that contributed so much to the Battle of Britain and ultimately the end of the war."

Additional events taking place at this years Suzuki Cotswold Show and County Fair, which is jointly sponsored by the Standard, include the Northleach Welsh Pony and Cob Show.

This will be the first time the Welsh Pony show has been held at Cirencester Park having been at Stowell park in Northleach for the past 40 years.

Equine enthusiasts from across the country are expected to head for Cirencester on Saturday, July 9 for the event, the biggest gathering of Welsh Ponies and Cobs outside Wales.

Show organiser Judy Hancox commented: "The Northleach Show had 40 very happy years at our previous venue but as the size of the show grew we knew we had to find a different location.

It seemed fitting we should link up with the Cotswold Show and Country Fair, which is known for promoting countryside activities.

Moving to Cirencester Park has allowed us to expand the show whilst keeping its unique atmosphere and beautiful parkland setting."

The Cotswold Show runs from July 8-9 and tickets cost £8, or £18 for a family ticket of four,
