WHAT was supposed to be the Cirencester and District Football League's last day of the season on April 30, turned out not to be as four matches were postponed due to teams being unable to raise a side.

Of the games that went ahead, Beeches made certain of the runners-up spot with a 6-1 win at Purton A.

Ashton Keynes, who have staged a good recovery after losing seven of their first eight games, beat Taverners 4-0 to clinch third place from South Cerney who recorded a good result at Champions CHQ to finish fourth on goal difference.

Long-term leaders Fairford finished fifth in their first season following their promotion.

In Division 2, South Cerney Reserves snatched third place with a mid-week win over RDS and beating champions Bibury Reserves in their last match 2-1.

On Bank Holiday Monday, Lechlade retained the Junior Charities Cup after coming from behind to beat a dogged Kingshill side 2-1 in a game of few scoring opportunities.

The afternoon saw Beeches end CHQ United's hopes of a treble by defeating them 2-0 to lift the Senior Charities Cup.

The final matches were played out over last week and these had little significance, except CHQ United Res defeat by Minety Res left them stranded at the foot of the league while their first team sit proudly on the top.
