Jenner looking to box clever for Malmebury ABC

MALMESBURY Amateur Boxing Club are to stage their final show of the season at the Olympiad Leisure Cen-tre in Chippenham this Saturday.

Fighters from the Malmesbury stable are facing testing opponents, none more so than hot prospect Sam Jenner who takes on Welsh schoolboy champion Leon Goodman, from Newport's St Joseph's gym.

Jenner is by far the more experienced campaigner and has fought some top-class opposition this season.

He was very unlucky to drop a close decision in the schoolboys championship quarter-finals to the eventual champion, and his slight frame belies his strength, punching power and sheer grit and determination.

Frequently, Jenner finds the three by one and a half minute round distance too short for his style, and will be far more comfortable when he moves into the next age group next season where he will be competing over three by two minute rounds.

He has an old head on his young shoulders and realises that facing opponents of the calibre of Welshman Goodman can only bring improvement to his already considerable talent. A great fight is surely in prospect.

Improving Andy Ware, who has been working hard in the gym, will be looking to notch up an early win for the hosts when taking on Cleeve's Alex Holland.

Ware has all the punches and needs only to add an edge to his determination to record his first victory.

Big Richard Sheppard will be hoping to repeat his form of the last Malmesbury show against Alway ABC's Neil McLaughlin in a match made at 72kg.

Sheppard has plenty of power and is a big ticket seller, so is sure to have plenty of support in the Olympiad's Studio Hall.

Classy Luke Stevens meets Bracknell's Steve Masters again in a rubber match.

While Stevens won their first encounter, he allowed the decision to be snatched from him in their last meeting. The Malmesbury boy is determined that there will be no mistakes this time.

But the club's National champion, Joe Hughes, will be on the sidelines for this show as, the following Thursday, he travels to Wales with the England squad to compete in the Four Nations Championship.

Boxing starts at 8pm and tickets will be available on the door at £10.
