SWINDON Town finished their 2004-5 campaign on Saturday with a fairly mundane 1-1 draw at home to Chesterfield, writes Ben Maggs.
In a game analogous to their entire season, the Robins started brightly but tailed off at the end.
The first 20 minutes actually produced some inspired football from the home side, and the slick passing and willingness to attack finally paid off as Sam Parkin popped up to bag yet another goal - his 73rd in a Town shirt.
The scores were level soon after, however, when Tcham N'Toya fired home for the visitors, and the match fizzled out from here on in.
In his post-match comments, Swindon manager Andy King said: "Having taken the lead, we let them get back in - which perhaps we shouldn't have done.
"We looked a different type of team to Chesterfield; I think we looked a better side.
"The thing we have to do is rectify some of our inconsistencies, and we need players to come back for pre-season training far hungrier than they have been of late."
But finding the necessary improvements for next season will not be an easy task as a number of players might well be leaving the club this summer.
Sam Parkin is likely to be the subject of an offer from Cham-pionship side Watford in the coming weeks while Matt Heywood will definitely be leaving Swindon after four years.
And as Grant Smith, Sammy Igoe, Rhys Evans and David Duke have all been offered new contracts with reduced salaries, there is no telling whether any of them will stay or go.
It has been a very tough season for Swindon Town, as well and their fans, but next year could potentially be far worse.
