Beeches FC pick up some long-awaited silverware

A HARD-working display was enough to give Beeches their first trophy in many a long year, beating CHQ 2-0 in last Monday afternoon's Senior Charities Cup final held at the Corinium Stadium.

Starting the tie as slight under-dogs against Cirencester League Division One champions CHQ United, Beeches were slow out of the blocks and were grateful to Baker in goal on more than one occasion.

But as the half wore on, Beeches came into the game and Scarlett opened the scoring on 20 minutes with a stunning chip from 25 yards that went in off the bar and a post.

Beeches' best period of the half followed with Browning and Keen both going close.

Moving into the second half, the expected barrage from CHQ came, but Baker kept all shots at bay.

As CHQ pushed on, they started to leave gaps and it was Scarlett who latched on to a Kielty header to slam home an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box.

CHQ again went on the offensive, but the back four of Hendon, Wallis, Kielty and captain Wiltshire held firm with Lye, Mitchell, Smith and Waters ably assisting them to see out a solid and impressive display from this young team.

Special mention of Benson, Lee, Powderhill and Fields, none of whom kicked a ball on the day but had more than played their part in a great first season for this up-and-coming side.

Rapido Couriers man of the match went to the whole of the Beeches' squad.
