Cirencester College gets share of the ESFA Trophy

IN a most unusual finish to their ESFA U18s Colleges Trophy campaign, Cirencester College are to share the spoils with their Middlesbrough College rivals after last week's final finished in a 1-1 draw after extra time.

In the tie, played at Saltergate, Chesterfield FC, Middlesbrough went in 1-0 up at the break through a Ben Everson goal.

But England schoolboy international Matthew Green equalised for Cirencester in injury time to send the tie into extra time.

Both teams each hit a post during extra time, but neither could add to their score.

With the teams anticipating the inevitable penalty shoot-out, Cirencester coach Steve Lowndes was surprised to learn that the competition organisers had decided it would be more fitting for each College to hold the trophy for a period of six months.

The trophy and medals were presented by ESFA chairman Steve Abson and Chesterfield manager Roy McFarlane.
