Comic masterpiece set for Cheltenham

GOGOL's comic masterpiece The Government Inspector will be presented by the Playhouse Company at the Playhouse Theatre, Cheltenham from Saturday, April 16 to Saturday, April 23.

The play is one of the theatre's greatest comedies. Although written nearly two hundred years ago, the modern translation by John Byrne makes it seem fresh and totally relevant to today's society.

The setting for the play is South Wales in the 1950s and it shows a group of corrupt officials in a small town, who are terrified at the prospect of a visit from a government inspector.

When a newcomer arrives in their town they all assume him to be the inspector but, of course, they are wrong. The visitor pockets their bribes, seduces their women and then leaves. Only then do they realise their dreadful error.

This is a highly entertaining evening for all theatregoers, young and old. Don't miss it!

The show begins at 7.45pm each night, tickets from the box office on 01242 522852.
