Highworth Town pick up three points to stay top of table

HIGHWORTH picked up three more valuable points in a 3-0 win at Ardley Utd on Saturday to remain at the top of the Hellenic Premier Division table.

It took some 20 minutes for the visitors to come to terms with both the pronounced slope of the Ardley pitch and also the hosts' well rehearsed off-side trap.

Once the visitors found a solution to these problems, it needed only an outstanding own goal for the Town to take control.

Two further goals from occasional scorer Sean Terry meant that the Wiltshire side went into half-time with a secure lead of three goals to nil.

With Highworth playing up the slope after the break, it became an exercise in control.

And although the Town did not add to their score, they once again maintained a clean sheet for the 20th time in this season's league campaign.

This should aid their impressive goal difference which may be vital in the final reckoning.

Phil Corcoran's two goals gave Highworth a 2-2 draw at Chipping Norton last Tuesday night. This Saturday's local derby sees Town home to Fairford, 3pm ko.
