Corinium Cycling Club kicks off a new season

CORINIUM Cycling Club kicked off its 2005 racing season on Saturday with the staging of the annual two-up ten-mile team time trial.

The fastest Corinium pairing on the day was Allan Norwood and his younger partner, Andy Strickland, turning in a good ride of 24min 49sec.

This was a hard won battle as Strickland had not ridden in anger for three years.

In second place were Andy Kirk and Simon Samuel in a fine time of 27.44, followed by life member Mike Appleby and son Andy, timing at 28.30.

Other times on the day are as follows: solo ride by second claim member Brian Newton 23.26, Andrew Smith (solo) 25.46, Arja Scarsbrook (solo) 26.36, Marcus Eales and Chippenham rider Julian Dazely at 23.46, Gerry Peppin with Swindon RC rider Roger Cantwell 28.51.

As well as Corinium CC riders, the Swindon RC fielded a number of competitors with Trevor Sherwood and Graham Messer finishing fastest in a time of 23.25.

For last Sunday's weekly club run, a nine-strong party departed from Cirencester Parish Church for Stroud. They headed out through Coates to Minchinhampton and then it was on to Stroud.

From here, the group headed back towards Toadsmoor before turning right and on to the main road and back to Cirencester.

Corinium CC events continue this Saturday with a solo ten-mile time trial on the Latton course with the first rider set to go off at 2pm.

Race headquarters is at the Ashton Keynes pavilion and any new members are always welcome to go along.

This Sunday's club run is a special event, a car-assisted one to Wellesbourne.
