Northleach pupils have been making mosaics

THEY say history repeats itself, which is certainly the case at Redrow's Collingwood Crescent in Gloucester where the modern world is breathing new life into history.

For modern day mosaics, inspired by tiling at a Roman ruin, have found a home at Collingwood Crescent, the contemporary restoration of 19th century Horton Hospital.

The Grade II* listed building, is now housing four mosaic plaques created by 60 pupils from Linden Primary, in Gloucester, and Northleach Primary, in the village of Northleach.

The artwork was created as part of the Redrow Schools Partnership, an innovative National Trust enterprise sponsored by the award-winning housebuilder.

The Partnership brings together children from differing social and economic backgrounds - usually an urban and rural primary school - to work on art activities at their local Trust property.

In this instance, Chedworth Roman Villa, in Yanworth, has provided the inspiration for the children's work.

The mosaic patterns on the Villa's dining room and bathroom floors were the basis of designs produced by the children, aged nine and ten, over the course of workshops with a mosaic artist at the Trust property.
