Leading Lady of jazz to visit Malmesbury

DENISE Lawrence has been described as the UK's leading lady of jazz, blues and gospel music and she is coming with her band to play for the Malmesbury Jazz Society at the Rose and Crown, Lea, near Malmesbury on Saturday, March 26 as part of the band's 21st anniversary tour to local jazz clubs and venues.

Established in 1982, this band has attracted flattering reviews from the world of theatre, cabaret and the jazz circuit.

It has played in such places as London's Waldorf Hotel, the Barbican Centre, the Royal Festival Hall and the cabaret room at the Pizza on the Park in Knightbridge, but also in numerous parish churches and on BBC TV's Songs of Praise. It has also produced several Cds.

As resident band at Berkshire Jazz Club, Denise and the boys have played alongside some of the world's finest jazz musicians, including Nigel Kennedy and Roy Williams.

Denise and her husband, Tony, who is the band's musical director and also a solo pianist in his own right, have entertained in hotels and aboard cruise liners, as well as touring world wide from Hong Kong to Hawaii.

The band will be playing in the Function Room at the Rose and Crown from 8.30-11.30pm. Lea is off the B4042 Malmesbury to Swindon road. More details from Sue Poole on 01666 824918.
