Gloucestershire's schools to make music together

GLOUCESTERSHIRE Music Services, Making Music and the Cheltenham Bach Choir have joined forces with Gloucestershire schools, including Paternoster School in Cirencester, to mount a singing project which culminates in a concert performance at Cheltenham Town Hall on Saturday, March 19 at 7.30pm.

The aim has been to support singing in schools, to raise the profile of singing across the county and to encourage new partnerships between schools and community groups.

The programme consists of African Sanctus by David Fanshawe and a new piece, Rainland, by Joseph Phibbs which was premiered by 1,000 school children last March at the Royal Albert Hall.

The performance will be conducted by Stephen Jackson, director of the BBC Symphony Orchestra and conductor of the Cheltenham Bach Choir and will include over 100 young people, 100 members of the CBC and the 60 piece Bath Spa University College Wind Band.

"We're delighted that our children are being given this opportunity. The process of learning this music will have all sorts of spin offs which will help their general learning as well as their musical skills," said Kate Kinsey from Paternoster School.
