Cirencester and District Football League round-up

DUE to a shortage of players, long-time Cirencester & District Football League members Stratton Athletic have been left with no alternative but to withdraw at a late stage of the season.

But as far as Stratton manager Gordon Strange is concerned, the writing was on the wall the the weekend before last for the game against Wanderers.

When only eight other players bothered to turn up, 58-year-old Strange had to don his boots for what was his team's final match.

The nine men battled bravely, but lost 4-0 to stronger opposition. In last Saturday's game, Fairford were 4-0 down, but fought back before losing 4-3.

CHQ were leading 5-2 with ten minutes left, but Oaksey scored three for a share of the spoils. Results are as follows:

Division 1: Golden Farm 0, South Cerney 2; Oaksey 5, CHQ Utd 5; Poulton 8, Purton A 1; Siddington 2, Ashton Keynes 2; Fairford Tn A 3, Eastcombe 4.
