Ian McEwan to talk about Saturday

THE OXFORD Playhouse is to hold an evening of conversation between Dr Jonathan Miller and author Ian McEwan on Sunday, March 13 at 5pm to benefit the Oxford-based charity DIPEx.

Writer, stage, screen and television director Jonathan Miller will talk to Ian McEwan about his new novel Saturday, as well as broadening the discussion to cover literature and science.

They will also touch on the way neuro-degenerative diseases in close relatives have affected their own live.

Ian's latest novel describes the experiences of a neurosurgeon as he moves around central London on February 15, 2003, the day of the massive anti-war protest, including a visit to his mother who is dying of vascular dementia.

DIPEx, whose research group in Oxford University carries out studies into people's own experience of illness, runs an award-winning website, www.dipex.org where you can watch, listen to or read their stories as well as find reliable medical information about the condition itself.

Jonathan and Ian will answer questions from the audience at the end of their conversation and Ian will be available to sign copies of his new book. Tickets from the box office on 01865 305305 or www.oxfordplayhouse.com

Proceeds from the event will be donated to DIPEx for research into peoples' experiences of Myeloma, a cancer of the blood cells which particularly occurs in middle aged and elderly people.
