Cracking game of football at Cinder Lane

IN a cracking game of football at Cinder Lane on Saturday, there were six goals scored in a frenetic first half.

But frustratingly for the Fairford hosts, they finished up on the end of a 4-2 defeat after scoring only two of them.

Lee Clark got manager Mark Webb's Fairford side off to the best possible start with a goal after just two minutes.

However, Fairford were caught napping when Wyatt replied with an equaliser for North Leigh only two minutes later.

And when Wyatt bagged his second in the 13th minute, the Oxfordshire side had a 2-1 lead that they probably weren't expecting.

Things got even better for the visitors when Hope's 19th-minute strike put them into a 3-1 lead.

Fairford, though, had no intention of lying down and rolling over and reduced the deficit with a goal from Dave Toomey in the 37th minute.

They continued battling away for the equaliser, only to be sunk by a fourth North Leigh goal that was scored by Burnley just two minutes before the interval.

For this Saturday's Premier League game, Fairford have a trip to Bristol to play Almondsbury Town, 3pm ko.

Next Wednesday evening's game at Cinder Lane (7.30pm ko) sees Fairford Town set to entertain a high-flying Slimbridge, under caretaker manager John Evans, with promotion still very much on their minds.
