Fairford FC on course for a top-eight finish

FAIRFORD Town strengthened their hopes of a top-eight finish in the Hellenic Premier League this season with a convincing 3-0 victory over visiting Hungerford last weekend.

The Cinder Lane team followed up their 1-0 win over Ardley United just a week earlier, which was achieved with a 21st-minute goal from Lee Clark, by scoring three first-half goals inside half-an-hour at the expense of Hungerford on Saturday.

In an explosive opening by Fairford, Moore put them ahead just two minutes after the start of the game.

Toomey double their lead from the penalty spot only two minutes later.

And when Hawkins scored Fairford's third in the 24th minute, the match was as good as over as a contest for manager Mark Webb's side.

In last Tuesday evening's mid-week Hellenic Premier game at Abingdon, Fairford unfortunately failed to pick up a single point.

Instead, it was the hosts who secured a 2-0 win with a goal in each half. Hooper got the first on the half-hour and Pierson the second after 69 minutes.

For this Saturday's Hellenic Premier encounter, Fairford are home to Pewsey, 3pm.
