SWINDON Town put together a great performance to defeat Barnsley 2-1 at a wind-battered County Ground on Saturday.
In difficult conditions, the Robins battled to secure a third successive League 1 victory, and with it seventh spot in the table.
Super Sam Parkin was once again the hero, scoring both goals for manager Andy King's men.
The first was a top-class strike from the edge of the box after the ball had deflected to him off Lee Holmes.
And his second was a diving header after a delicious cross from Derby loan star Holmes. Jacob Burns had equalised for Barnsley in the first half, but Swindon ran out deserving winners.
In his post-match comments, King said: "It was not a nice football match to watch and yet it's three points to put us in a position to challenge.
"I thought it was a disciplined performance in the second half. At this time of year, teams that stand up to be counted will be in there. You have ups and downs. It's how you deal with them.
"We keep belief in each other and perhaps that pays dividends. This for me was our best performance this season so far."
On Saturday, Town visit struggling Torquay currently sitting in 20th spot.
When the two sides clashed at the County Ground earlier in the season, Town gave away a two-goal lead to draw 3-3 with the Seagulls, and the Robins will be looking to amend that failure with a well executed demolition job this time around.
Swindon's current form would suggest a victory is on the cards.
However strikers Jo Kuffour and Leon Constantine will always pose a threat to any team, and so a success should not be taken for granted, in what, realistically, will be another tough League 1 encounter.
