Choral society welcomes new conductor

CIRENCESTER Choral Society's new conductor is Carleton Etherington who succeeds David Whitehead.

David conducted the choir for three years, masterminding several very successful performances including Zadok the Priest and excerpts from The Messiah.

Carleton, who trained at the Royal Academy of Music in London, is also conductor of the Bromsgrove Choral Society as well as organist and master of the choristers at Tewkesbury Abbey. He has also won several prestigious prizes as a musician.

Since his appointment Carleton has been putting the choir through its paces in preparation for its next concert in May - Mendelssohn's Elijah, performed in the Bingham Hall, while the Parish Church undergoes restoration work.

The Choral Society would also like to welcome its new accompanist, Jenny Rees, who comes from Tetbury.

Cirencester Choral Society puts on two concerts each year and extends a very warm welcome to new members. No auditions are required, just come along and enjoy the singing. More details from Sheila Snelgrove on 01285 657103.
